Lawn care software for a mowing crew: what routes and weekly billing cost

For 2 mowing routes, the paid plans we priced run US$34.99 to US$199 a month. Free plans exist, but they stop at 25 customers (LawnPro Solo) or 30 jobs a month (ServiceM8 Free). The bigger lever is how you bill. Charging 100 weekly clients once a month, not per visit, saves US$810 a year in card fees. That is our arithmetic, with its assumptions shown below. Prices are in US dollars, read from 2026-10-20 to 2026-11-02.

Links to vendors on this page are plain links to each vendor's own site. If we ever join a vendor's program, we say so next to that link. Pay never sets the order or the numbers. How we are paid.

A mowing week: how many routes you run

A route is one truck and one crew on one calendar. Most lawn tools price by routes or by people. A few price by jobs. This is what 2 routes cost, a month, in US dollars. Rows are sorted by the monthly-billing price, lowest first.

Option2 routesA yearWhat gates routesNot for you if
Yardbook BusinessUS$34.99 a monthUS$420Routing is listed on every plan. The page we read does not say how many routes a plan covers. You need a client portal or QuickBooks sync: both are Enterprise (US$49.99 a month). Not tested by us.
GorillaDesk BasicUS$99 a month (US$49 for route 1, US$50 for route 2)US$1,188Basic routing, capped at a set number of stops: 24 in our trial's feature list, 25 on the public pricing page. They disagree. Drive Matrix routing is Pro.You run more stops than that cap. We could not tell whether the cap is per route or per day.
LawnPro GrowUS$129 a month, or US$99 a month billed yearlyUS$1,188 billed yearly, US$1,548 billed monthlyOptimized routes and route analytics start at Grow. Routes and crew limits per plan: we did not capture them. You want a vendor we tested. LawnPro is not tested by us; the numbers come from its public pricing page.
GorillaDesk ProUS$149 a month (US$99 for route 1, US$50 for route 2)US$1,788Drive Matrix routing, customer portal, online booking, GPS device tracking, Stripe and Square subscriptions (our trial feature list, 2026-11-02). Subscriptions are on Pro and up.You want recurring service agreements on the plan list. Our trial lists Service Plans on Growth only. The October public page put them on Pro. They disagree. Growth starts at US$149 for 1 route; we did not price 2 routes on Growth.
ServiceM8 PremiumUS$149 a month, unlimited users, 500 jobs a monthUS$1,788Priced by jobs, not routes. Premium is the cheapest plan with a cap above the 433 visits that 100 weekly clients bring in an average month, if each visit counts as one job. A five-week month is 500 visits, which is exactly the cap.You run more than 500 jobs a month. We did not check how ServiceM8 counts recurring visits. The same prices show on our trial's plan screen, 2026-11-02.
Jobber Connect (2 to 5 people)US$199 a month, or US$149 a month on annual billingUS$2,388 billed monthly, US$1,788 billed annuallyRoute optimization starts at Connect, so the 1-user Core plan does not have it.You are one person with one truck. Core is a 1-user plan at US$49 a month and has no route tool. The Connect monthly price matches our trial's plan page, 2026-11-02.

Estimates. A year is 12 months at the monthly price. Sales tax is extra. GorillaDesk's yearly toggle takes off one month's price at that size (our trial, 2026-11-02). Prices were read on: GorillaDesk 2026-10-20 (our trial's plan screen on 2026-11-02 shows the same US$49, US$99 and US$149 for 1 route, and matches the Basic and Pro route rule at 6 routes), LawnPro 2026-11-02, Jobber 2026-11-03, ServiceM8 2026-10-20, Yardbook 2026-10-26. GPS tracking is a Pro feature at GorillaDesk.

Billing the weekly client: per visit or one monthly invoice

Card fees have a fixed 30 cents on every charge. A US$45 mow is a small charge, so the 30 cents hurts.

Assumptions: US$45 a visit. 100 clients. 36 visits each, which is a 9 month season at 4 visits a month. Every payment is a card at 2.9% + 30 cents, in US dollars. That is US$162,000 of mowing a year.

How you billCharges a yearFee on one chargeFees a year
Every visit, US$453,600US$1.605 (3.57%)US$5,778
One invoice a month, US$180 (4 visits)900US$5.52 (3.07%)US$4,968
Gap2,700 fewerUS$810

The 2.9% part is the same both ways (US$4,698). The gap is 2,700 fewer charges at 30 cents each, which is US$810. It is the same gap at any percentage rate, because only the fixed fee repeats. ServiceM8 lists 3.1% + 30 cents in the US, and the gap is the same there too.

Estimate, our arithmetic. The rate, 2.9% + 30 cents, is the published online card rate at Jobber (read 2026-10-22) and Yardbook (through Stripe, read 2026-10-26). GorillaDesk's Stripe page states 2.9% + 30 cents (read 2026-11-02), and GorillaDesk uses your own Stripe or Square account with no markup stated on its pricing page. ServiceM8 read 2026-10-20.

What it costs you: the client pays after four mows, not each week. A skipped week needs a credit. Not for you if: your clients are new and you want the cash each visit, or many of them skip weeks.

Bank debit costs less

Jobber lists ACH bank debit at 1% in the US (read 2026-10-22). On US$162,000 that is US$1,620 a year, if there is no fixed fee or minimum. The page lists only the percentage, and we did not ask Jobber about a minimum. Your client has to sign a debit agreement first.

Who can bill monthly, from what we saw

  • GorillaDesk: "advanced invoice frequencies" start at Basic. Stripe and Square subscriptions start at Pro. Both are from our trial's feature list, 2026-11-02.
  • LawnPro: level billing and service contracts are listed on the free Solo plan (read 2026-11-02, not tested by us).
  • LawnPro, in its own words: LawnPro's reply by email to our pricing check, received 2026-11-03, said routing can be added to any plan that does not include it; no price was given. For card payments it wrote "2.9% and .30 cents per transaction", which we read as 2.9% + 30 cents. We asked what the routing add-on costs on Solo and Startup and have no answer yet, so the prices above do not include it.
  • Jobber: automatic payments start at Connect (Jobber's pricing page, read 2026-10-26; the Connect plan screen in our trial shows it too, 2026-11-02).

These are the closest matches we found. We did not test whether any of them turns four visits into one invoice.

The off-season: freeze, pause or keep paying

An idle month on GorillaDesk Pro with 2 routes still costs US$149 (the plan price from the table above).

  • GorillaDesk: its pricing FAQ says "You can also freeze your account if your business is seasonal" (read 2026-11-02). We did not open the freeze screen in our trial, so the price and length of a freeze are not confirmed. Terms: none (monthly) or annual prepaid. No refunds for partial months or unused months (read 2026-10-20).
  • Jobber: Monthly: cancel any time, ends at period end. 1-year commitment: billed monthly to end of 12-month term. Annual prepaid: non-refundable. Annual: cancel at least 30 days before renewal. (read 2026-10-22).
  • Yardbook paid plans: Non-refundable; early termination keeps billing until the current term ends. Auto-renew is on (read 2026-10-26).
  • Service Autopilot: see the outgrowing section below. It is the hardest one to pause.

If you stop work for months, pick a monthly plan with a freeze or an easy cancel. A prepaid year is the one to avoid. Not for you if: you mow all year. You may never need a freeze.

Canada

Most of these tools price in US dollars. Say so on any quote you ask for.

  • Card rates: Stripe Canada lists 2.9% + CA$0.30 for online cards. It also lists pre-authorised debit at 1% + CA$0.40, capped at CA$5 (read 2026-11-02). On a CA$180 monthly invoice that is CA$2.20 by debit against CA$5.52 by card. Over 900 invoices a year, if every client paid by debit, that is CA$1,980 against CA$4,968. Estimate, our arithmetic.
  • Jobber: bank debit (ACH) is not available in Canada, per its pricing page and help article (read 2026-11-02). Jobber prices are in US dollars, and it publishes no Canadian-dollar price list.
  • GorillaDesk: US dollars, and no Canadian-dollar price list. It uses your own Stripe or Square account. The Stripe integration page does not mention Canada or currency. We could not tell whether a Canadian account can use pre-authorised debit there.
  • ServiceM8: prices in Canadian dollars: Free 0, Starter 29, Growing 79, Premium 149, Premium Plus 349 a month. The card fee on Free is 3.3% + 30 cents, and 2.69% + 30 cents on Premium. Its help page says these fees are current as of September 2024, so check them before you rely on them.
  • LawnPro and LMN: Canada terms not checked. Service Autopilot and Yardbook: no Canadian-dollar price list published (read 2026-10-22 and 2026-10-20).

Bank debit only helps if your client signs a debit agreement and your tool can run it. Check that before you plan around the saving. Not for you if: you must invoice in Canadian dollars. Only ServiceM8 publishes Canadian prices among the options above.

The 2020 forum answer, and why prices here have a date

A LawnSite thread from November 2020, "Lawn Care Software Recommendations", was on Google's first page for this search when we looked on 2026-11-02 (US results: number 9 on mobile, number 2 on desktop). One reply, posted on 2020-11-24, says of Service Autopilot: "I think the cost is a percentage of your revenue." Its pricing page, read 2026-10-22, lists US$49, US$199 and US$499 a month, plus a sign-up fee. The poster hedged, and the thread is six years old. That is why every price here has a read date.

One AI answer we checked on 2026-11-02 (Perplexity) put GorillaDesk Pro at about US$198 a month for 2 routes, as two times US$99. GorillaDesk's pricing page prices the first route at US$99 and each added route at US$50, which is US$149 for 2 routes (table above).

What we tested, and what we did not

  • GorillaDesk: 14-day trial, no card. We read the plan screen on 2026-11-02: Basic US$49, Pro US$99 and Growth US$149 a month at 1 route. We did not open the freeze screen or run a payment.
  • ServiceM8 and Jobber: trial accounts. We read plan screens only, on 2026-11-02. No payment was run.
  • Jobber's Receptionist, by phone: on 2026-11-03 we called Jobber's demo line (it runs on Jobber's own sample landscaping business) with a lawn-care request. One call, not a ranking. The agent answered in about a second, took the service address and the job (weekly mowing and hedge trimming, a quote and the earliest start), asked whether there were pets on the property, and created a Jobber request. A "Thanks for your request!" email with a link to the client page arrived about 14 seconds before the call ended. It never asked what service we wanted, because we volunteered it on our second line. Receptionist is US$29 a month for 30 conversations in Jobber's app (more on the Jobber cost page). Our test call, 2026-11-03.
  • LawnPro, Service Autopilot, LMN, Yardbook: not tested by us. Numbers come from their public pages, on the dates above. LawnPro's numbers were read from its public pricing page on 2026-11-02 and were not re-read when this page was built.
  • Vendor confirmation: three replies so far. Jobber replied on 2026-11-03 and points to its pricing page as the source for prices, so its numbers here are dated to our read of that page. LawnPro replied by email on 2026-11-03 to our pricing check and did not dispute the plan prices and employee counts we listed for it. ServiceM8 replied on 2026-11-03 and confirmed its card rates and terms; its other figures were asked and the reply is pending. We asked GorillaDesk, Service Autopilot and LMN on 2026-11-03 and have no reply yet. We have not yet asked Yardbook. A reply that agrees counts the same as no reply: we change a number only with a primary source.

Quick answers

How much does lawn care software cost for a small mowing crew?

For 2 mowing routes, the paid plans we priced run US$35 to US$199 a month, read between 2026-10-20 and 2026-11-02.

Is there free lawn care software?

Yes, with limits. LawnPro Solo stops at 25 customers and ServiceM8 Free stops at 30 jobs a month.

Should I bill weekly lawn clients per visit or once a month?

Card fees carry a fixed 30 cents on every charge. Billing 100 weekly clients once a month instead of per visit saves about US$810 a year in card fees on the assumptions shown on this page.

Can Jobber answer the phone for a lawn business?

obber sells an AI phone receptionist add-on. When we phoned its demo line with a lawn-care request on 2026-11-03, it took the address and the job and created a Jobber request, but it never asked what service we wanted. One test call, on Jobber's own sample business.
