eBay fee calculator: fees and profit per sale

US$40 item, US$6 shipping, no Store

US$6.66 is what eBay takes in most categories: 13.6% of the US$46.00 sale plus a US$0.40 per-order fee. You keep US$39.34 before your own costs. With a Basic Store the fees are US$6.24, and that Store costs US$21.95 a month on yearly renewal.

B2B Fees read eBay's own US fee pages on Nov 7, 2026. They print no last-updated date. How we test · How we are paid: no link on this page earns us money.

Your sale

eBay takes US$6.66, 14.48% of the US$46.00 you charge. Final value fee US$6.26, per-order fee US$0.40.

Estimate from the rates eBay prints for ebay.com, one item per order. Fees round half a cent up; eBay's pages do not say how they round, so a fee can differ by a cent. They do not say which amount the US$10 per-order line uses; we use the total amount of the sale. Profit is item price plus shipping, less fees, your Store fee share and your two costs.

The percent lands on more than the item price

eBay charges its percent on the total amount of the sale: item, handling, shipping you collect and sales tax. On the example, free shipping costs US$5.84 in fees, US$6 of shipping US$6.66, and a buyer paying 8% tax (our example rate) US$7.16.

The per-order fee bites on cheap items. A US$8 item with free shipping pays US$1.39, 17.38% of the sale: 13.6% is US$1.09 and the order fee is US$0.30.

Some categories have cliffs, where the whole sale moves to another percent. Athletic shoes pay 13.6% plus the per-order fee under US$150 and 8% with no per-order fee from US$150. A US$149.99 pair costs US$20.80 in fees, a US$150.00 pair US$12.00. Shipping counts toward the 150. Handbags and jewelry have cliffs at US$2,000 and US$5,000.

  • Per order without a Store: 13.6% of US$46.00 is US$6.26, plus US$0.40, so US$6.66. With a Basic Store: 12.7% is US$5.84, plus US$0.40, so US$6.24.
  • A year is 12 x (orders x the per-order fees + the Store fee). Without a Store at 50 orders: 12 x (50 x US$6.66) = US$3,996.00. Basic at 50 orders: 12 x (50 x US$6.24 + US$21.95) = 12 x US$333.95 = US$4,007.40.
  • Basic is US$213.00 over no Store at 10 orders and US$744.60 under it at 200. Starter costs US$59.40 a year and its rows match the no-Store rows in every category above, so it adds that at every size.
  • Each point of ad rate adds US$0.46 on this sale: US$276.00 a year at 50 orders a month.

When a Store pays for itself

A Basic Store (US$21.95 a month on yearly renewal, US$27.95 on monthly) is the first plan with lower published rates. Premium, Anchor and Enterprise print the same rates, so they pay back only through listing allowances (10,000 free fixed price listings on Premium, 1,000 on Basic). Here, the orders a month of the US$46.00 sale at which Basic's saving equals its fee.

Most categories break even at 53 orders a month (US$2,438.89 of sales, US$0.42 saved a sale); consumer electronics at 12, because eBay's Store row is 9.35% against 13.6% (its no-Store table has no electronics row, so that is our reading). On monthly renewal: 67 and 15. For US$150 athletic shoes the saving is US$1.50 a sale, 15 orders. Every order is the same size and listings stay inside both free allowances.

Quick answers

How much does eBay take from a sale?

On a US$46.00 sale in most categories with no Store, US$6.66: US$6.26 final value fee plus the US$0.40 per-order fee. With a Basic Store, US$6.24.

Is there a separate payment processing fee?

eBay's page says there is one final value fee and that you do not have to worry about third-party payment processing fees. It prints no processing rate, so the calculator adds none.

What ad rate does the calculator use?

Your own, from 2% to 100% of the total sale amount, charged when the item sells within 30 days of a click. eBay prints no suggested rate, so we show none.

How many free listings do I get?

Without a Store, 250 a month, then US$0.35 each. A Basic Store gets 1,000 fixed price listings, then US$0.25. Selling limits apply and some categories are excluded.

After the sale

The calculator takes your own shipping cost, which sits outside eBay's fees. To price a box, see the dimensional weight calculator and UPS, USPS or FedEx. If packing at home stops making sense, fulfillment covers 3PLs. Selling from your own site as well? Card processing there is on card fees.

Not for you if

  • You sell outside the USWe read the US pages for ebay.com. Each other country has its own, which we have not read.
  • You sell vehicles, real estate or on eBay LiveeBay prints separate fees for them.
  • Your category is not in the listWe model the 8 categories with a row we can match on both of eBay's tables. Stamps, coins, instruments and Motors parts differ. Read yours on eBay's page.
  • You use eBay International ShippingeBay counts shipping differently there. The calculator counts all shipping you charge.

How we know

The numbers come from the same code as the calculator, tested against hand-worked sales for every category row, both cliffs, the per-order boundary and the break-even points. We made no test sales and compared nothing with a live seller account. Not in the calculator: listing upgrades, refunds and fee credits, and eBay's shipping-fee exceptions. Not confirmed: how eBay rounds half a cent beyond its worked examples, which our half-up rounding reproduces, which amount its US$10 per-order line uses, and whether the Most categories row covers electronics on the no-Store table, which prints no electronics row.
