PayPal fee calculator: what PayPal takes and what you keep
A US$100.00 payment, PayPal Checkout, buyer in the US
US$3.98 is what PayPal takes: 3.49% plus a 49 cent flat fee. You keep US$96.02. Paid by card online, PayPal takes US$3.48. From a buyer abroad, US$5.48.
B2B Fees read PayPal's own US fee page on Nov 6, 2026. The page says it was last updated November 4, 2026. How we test · How we are paid: we are not in any PayPal referral program, and nothing here earns us money.
Your payment
Estimate from the rates PayPal and Venmo print, for US accounts. Fees round to the cent, half a cent up; neither page says how it rounds, so a payment can differ by a cent. We did not read how PayPal groups markets for international payments. "You keep" is in the currency you are paid in; converting it costs more. Yen, forint and Taiwan dollar are in the fixed fee fold only.
PayPal fees for each type of payment
PayPal's selling fees are one percent for each way a buyer pays, and a flat fee that changes with the currency you receive. A buyer abroad adds 1.50% of the payment on every type except Point of Sale.
All eight types, and what each takes from US$100.00
| How the buyer pays | PayPal prints | Flat fee | Taken from US$100.00 | You keep |

| PayPal Pay Later | 4.99% + US$0.49 fixed fee | US$0.49 | US$5.48 | US$94.52 |
| QR code | 2.29% + US$0.09 fixed fee | US$0.09 | US$2.38 | US$97.62 |
| Invoice paid by bank (ACH) | 1%, no fixed fee, capped at US$10.00 | none printed | US$1.00 | US$99.00 |

| Card keyed in (PayPal Point of Sale) | 3.49% + US$0.09 fixed fee | US$0.09 | US$3.58 | US$96.42 |
US buyer, US dollars. Point of Sale needs PayPal's approval. The Goods and Services row prints a percent only, so the flat fee is none printed. "Card online" is PayPal's Standard Credit and Debit Card Payments row; on an invoice PayPal's version of that row also covers Apple Pay and other third-party wallets.

Venmo fee calculator: what a Venmo seller pays
Venmo prints its own seller fees on its own fee page, read Nov 7, 2026. A buyer who pays with Venmo at a PayPal Checkout is the first row of the PayPal table, not these. Instant Transfer out costs 1.75%, from US$0.25 to US$25.00; the standard transfer is free.
| Venmo account | Venmo prints | Venmo takes on US$100.00 | Left after Venmo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venmo business profile | 1.9% + US$0.10 fixed fee | US$2.00 | US$98.00 |
| Venmo personal profile, payment the sender marks as goods and services | 2.99%, no fixed fee | US$2.99 | US$97.01 |
| Venmo business profile, Tap to Pay | 2.29% + US$0.09 fixed fee | US$2.38 | US$97.62 |
Under US$49, the flat fee adds more than a full point
PayPal adds a flat US$0.49 to each Checkout, card and Pay Later payment. At US$49 it equals one full point of the payment, on top of the percent. Below that, it grows fast: a US$10 payment costs US$0.84, or 8.4%.
| Checkout payment | US buyer | Share | Buyer abroad | Share, abroad |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| US$10.00 | US$0.84 | 8.4% | US$0.99 | 9.9% |
| US$100.00 | US$3.98 | 3.98% | US$5.48 | 5.48% |
| US$1,000.00 | US$35.39 | 3.54% | US$50.39 | 5.04% |
The same US$10 payment costs US$0.30 as Goods and Services (PayPal's row prints 2.99% with no fixed fee; we have not tested a payment) and US$0.32 by QR code, which carries a US$0.09 flat fee. A bank-paid invoice is 1% up to a US$10.00 cap: US$10.00 on US$1,000 and still US$10.00 on US$2,000.
To keep an amount, do not add the fee to your price. Charge US$103.98 for a US$100.00 target and PayPal takes US$4.12, so you keep US$99.86. To keep US$100.00 on Checkout, charge US$104.12.
Next to Stripe
Stripe's published US rate for an online card payment is 2.9% + 30 cents, read Nov 3, 2026. On US$100.00 that is US$3.20, against US$3.48 for a PayPal card payment and US$3.98 for Checkout. The other processors, and what they cost over a year, are on card fees.
Quick answers
How much does PayPal take from a US$100 payment?
B2B Fees read PayPal's US fee page on Nov 6, 2026. From a buyer in the US, PayPal Checkout takes US$3.98 (3.49% + US$0.49), a card payment US$3.48, a QR code US$2.38 and Send/Receive Money for Goods and Services US$2.99 (no fixed fee printed). A buyer abroad pays more: US$5.48 on Checkout.
How do I work out what to charge so I keep a set amount?
Add the fixed fee to the amount you want to keep, then divide by 1 minus the percent. To keep US$100.00 from a Checkout payment, that is about US$104.12. The calculator above does the exact steps, to the cent.
Is Goods and Services cheaper than Checkout?
On PayPal's page, Send/Receive Money for Goods and Services is 2.99% with no fixed fee, and Checkout is 3.49% plus a fixed fee. That is US$2.99 against US$3.98 on US$100.00. Other sites list this row with a fixed fee; PayPal's page prints none. Check a recent sale in your PayPal activity to see which row your account pays.
What does PayPal charge when the buyer is in another country?
The US rate applies, plus 1.50% of the payment. The fixed fee depends on the currency you are paid in: 0.49 USD, 0.59 CAD, 0.39 EUR and so on in the fold above. A bank-paid invoice from abroad adds the 1.50% too; PayPal does not say whether its US$10.00 cap covers the extra, so the calculator caps the 1% part only. PayPal prints no international fee for Point of Sale, so the calculator shows nothing for that combination.
How much does Venmo charge a seller?
On Venmo's own page, a business profile pays 1.9% + US$0.10 fixed fee per payment, a personal profile paid for goods and services pays 2.99%, and Tap to Pay on a business profile 2.29% + US$0.09 fixed fee. On US$100.00 that is US$2.00, US$2.99 and US$2.38.
Does PayPal also charge for currency conversion?
Yes, as a spread on the exchange rate: 4.00% when a buyer pays in a currency other than the one the goods are listed in, and 3.00% if you convert a foreign payment to US dollars. It sits in the rate, not in the fee, so the calculator leaves it out.
Not for you if
- You are paid in Canada or another countryWe read PayPal’s US page, which covers US accounts. PayPal has its own fees for other countries, which we have not read.
- You take most payments in personPayPal’s in-person rates need its approval and we have not tested its readers. Compare readers and processors on card fees.
- You want PayPal’s lower approved-account ratesFor accounts PayPal approves, its page prints 2.89% + a fixed fee for Advanced Credit and Debit Card Payments and 0.8% (capped at US5.00) for ACH, read Nov 6, 2026. PayPal ties them to approval, and we did not calculate them.
How we know
- We read PayPal's US fee page. Its date line reads "Last Updated: November 4, 2026", and its rates are for PayPal accounts of US residents. Every PayPal rate above is a row on that page, with its source link and day in our fact store.
- We read Venmo’s own fee page, which prints no update date. Every Venmo rate above is a row on it, in our fact store.
- We read three numbers (Checkout 3.49%, card 2.99%, the 49 cent fee) on the earlier copy. They are unchanged. We did not save the rest of that copy.
The numbers above come from the same code as the calculator. It is tested against hand-worked examples for every payment type: the flat fee by currency, a buyer abroad, rounding to the cent, the US$10.00 cap and the amount to charge. We did not make test payments through PayPal. Not confirmed: how either rounds half a cent, and which payment types your account can use. Method for every price on this site: how we check prices.
